A National Win in a Highly Competitive Category
The Saguaro Canyon project was designed to do more than simply illuminate a waterfeature. Our goal was to create a bold, immersive nighttime focal point that captures the essence of the Southwest—enhancing the movement of water, the texture of natural stone, and the sculptural quality of the surrounding landscape.
Waterfeature Illumination
The waterfeature illumination at Saguaro Canyon was designed to bring movement, depth, and energy to the cascading falls after dark. Rather than simply lighting the water, the goal was to create a dynamic visual experience that enhances the flow and texture of each tier while maintaining a warm, natural aesthetic.
Key elements of the outdoor lighting design included:
• Highlighting cascading waterfall tiers with layered submersible lighting
• Enhancing movement and depth through strategic fixture placement
• Using warm tones to enrich natural stone color
• Creating reflections that animate the water’s surface
• Balancing intensity to avoid glare while maintaining visual impact
Desert Landscape Accents
The surrounding landscape lighting was designed to reinforce the rugged, Southwest-inspired character of the feature. By selectively illuminating key elements, the design enhances scale and texture while preserving the natural darkness that defines the environment.
Key elements of the outdoor lighting design included:
• Uplighting vertical stone slabs to emphasize scale and texture
• Accenting desert-inspired plantings to add height and structure
• Using selective lighting to maintain contrast and authenticity
• Enhancing material textures through controlled grazing techniques
• Framing focal elements with intentional shadow and darkness
Community Presence & Experience
Saguaro Canyon was designed to serve as a visual landmark within the community, creating a memorable and engaging nighttime experience. The lighting enhances both visibility and atmosphere, ensuring the feature can be appreciated from multiple perspectives.
Key elements of the outdoor lighting design included:
• Creating a strong visual focal point visible from a distance
• Enhancing safety and visibility around the feature
• Designing for impact from multiple viewing angles
• Establishing a warm, inviting nighttime atmosphere
• Reinforcing the identity and character of the community
